PIPES OF PEACE

PIPES OF PEACE : After the critically acclaimed and stellar "Tug Of War," Paul is slacking again with this disappointing album which are left overs from the previous album. A few good tracks here and there but enough to life this album out of its melancholic mood. That's Paul McCartney for you. One moment brilliance and the next uttering disappointment. I honestly can't remember much of the songs here and I have to listen to them again to be able to write this down. That's how unmemorable the songs are. Fortunately, the three bonus are not bad, slightly making up for the many bad tracks here.

Pipes Of Peace ( McCartney ) : No doubt this was the best track here. A good melody and a good message and it's all the way to the top of the chart. One of Paul's more memorable tune. The video is memorable too.

Say, Say, Say ( McCartney / Jackson ) : Paul did a duet with Michael Jackson on his "Thriller" album called 'The Girl Is Mine' which was a delightful track, so Michael is returning the favour here. Some say this is the better choice than the Michael Jackson's track but though this is a good song, I prefer Michael Jackson's 'The Girl Is Mine' which sounded more spontaneous.

The Other Me ( McCartney ) : The third song here and the last one that I care for on this album. A fine track sadly the same can't be said for the rest and we still have eight more to go.

Keep Under Cover ( McCartney ) : This one is not so bad that I have to skip it but still a step down for our man. Tolerable but unmemorable like most of the songs here.

So Bad ( McCartney ) : I used to hate this song. Paul have a fine voice, why hide it under falsetto. I made an about turn when I heard another version of it on his "Give My Regards To Board Street." Now I love it. The many side to a Paul McCartney's songs as mentioned before.

The Man ( McCartney / Jackson ) : They should have left this in a Michael Jackson album and I wouldn't have bother. Not that it's bad. Just not memorable enough.

Sweetest Little Show ( McCartney ) : Another throwaway made listenable bye the Spanish guitar interlude.

Average Person ( McCartney ) : Utter rubbish and embarrassing. This is the kind of music that made rock music fan turn against him. What was he thinking.

Hey Hey ( McCartney ) : Another of those Paul McCartney instrumentals but this one is like the album not as good as those before it. Sloppiness it seems is infectious.

Tug Of Peace ( McCartney ) : After the beautiful 'Tug Of War,' this seemingly companion piece is a pain to listen to. It does contains a snippets of 'Tug Of War' and that's just about it. A few snippets here and there do not a good record make, and it is so true here.

Through Our Love ( McCartney ) : Thankfully and mercifully, we are treated to this gorgeous song after the tortures we went through. Just as I was about to throw in the towel, this one comes on. One of those famous McCartney ballad and here he did not disappoint.

BONUS TRACKS

Twice In A Lifetime ( McCartney ) : A decent track but not memorable.

We All Stand Together ( McCartney ) : The famous 'frogs' songs that Paul produced with an accompanying video that is very entertaining and which my kids loved as well. Rock purists hated it but it have charms aplenty to spare.

Simple As That ( McCartney ) : This track was previously only available on a 1986 various artists charity  album titled "The Anti Heroin Project - It's A Live-In World." Quite a nice song.

DOP : 7th December 1996.
