GIVE MY REGARDS TO BOARD STREET

GIVE MY REGARDS TO BOARD STREET : After the dismay "Pipes Of Peace," this was definitely a breath of fresh air. Some Beatles purists were not too happy with Paul's remaking of a few Beatles classics. But what the heck, it's his songs and he can do whatever he likes with them and besides I think he did a decent job with them. This album also contained his last ever big ballad 'No More Lonely Nights." But I think he overdid the song when he records a few too many versions of it, with some being in the disco gene which unfortunately don't work at all. Anyway, I do enjoyed this album tremendously and I played it quite often too. The movie was another matter however. Much as I loved Paul McCartney and seeing him with Ringo Starr again does stirred up some emotions but this movie certainly is boring. Only the musical section interest me. Seems he have not learnt his lesson from "Magical Mystery Tour."

No More Lonely Nights ( McCartney ) : Great ballad this on the mould of 'My Love.' His last ever big hit and deservedly so. I used to like singing this song at karaoke but no more 'cos due to my age, I can't reach the high note but damn it, he's more than 70 and he still can.

Good Day Sunshine ( Lennon / McCartney ) / Corridor Music ( McCartney ) : I've always like this song from "Revolver" and Paul didn't do a bad version here. The following song is incidental music essential to the movie and it's boring without the visual.

Yesterday ( Lennon / McCartney )  / Here, There And Everywhere ( Lennon / McCartney ) / Wanderlust ( McCartney ) : One of the definite high for me. Two Beatles and a Paul McCartney classic mingled into a glorious medley. Curiously I was never too crazy about 'Yesterday' but I absolutely loved his version here. His voice here is so crystal clear that you can't help but be mesmerised.. Same with 'Here. There And Everywhere' and 'Wanderlust' which was even better than the original from his stellar album "Tug Of War." A stellar moment here.

Ballroom Dancing ( McCartney ) : Don't really know what's the point of redoing this song so soon after the original. Not much different, just that the music here is slightly loudly than the original.

Silly Love Song / Reprise ( McCartney ) : Arguably this version is ever more solid than the original which was a whole wide smash from the 70's. The playing here is much more solid and have a more rock oriented sound as opposed to the pop song that was the original.

Not Such A Bad Boy ( McCartney ) : Of the two originals from this album, this was the better one. A great rocker that seems to tell the story of his escapade with the law in Japan.

So Bad ( McCartney ) : This was ever more recent than 'Ballroom Dancing .' I used to hate this song but on hearing it again here I've grown to like it. After continuous listening, it does grow on you.

No Values / No More Lonely Nights ( McCartney ) : This is a throwaway. A filter more suitable for a jam at the studio. Someone must have kept the tape running and so this was just to fill up the space.

For No One ( Lennon / McCartney ) : His take on another Beatles classic. No better or worst but I'll survive.

Eleanor Rigby ( Lennon / McCartney ) / Eleanor's Dream ( McCartney ) : Another Beatles classic. He did a decent job as usual but he should have stop after the first song. The second song or rather an instrumental piece sure is boring and long too.

The Long And Winding Road ( Lennon / McCartney ) : One of my favorite Beatles song sung by the man who wrote it. It can't go wrong and it didn't as far as I am concern and I like it.

No More Lonely Nights [ Play Out Version ] ( McCartney ) : Don't know what was he thinking. Was he trying to sabotage his own song. A disco version and total murdering of this fine song.

BONUS TRACKS

Goodnight Princess ( McCartney ) : This is a gorgeous 30's styled instrumental. You got to hand it to Paul. He sure knows his music well. Close your eyes and you'll surely be transported back in time.

No More Lonely Nights [ Extended Version ] ( McCartney ) : Yet another version. Yawn.

No More Lonely Nights [ Special Dance Mix ] ( McCartney ) : Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.............

DOP : 6th October 1997.
