LONDON TOWN

LONDON TOWN :  Upon this album release, a record reviewer once said "If "Wings At The Speed Of Sound' failed 'cos Paul allowed room for his band mates to sing, then this album offered Paul McCartney no room for excuse for it's failing for he does most of the singing himself."  The record review most probably must be doing something else for a living now for this was a solid album thought nowhere near "Band On The Run" or "Venus And Mars." This was after all the same threesome who produced the multi awards winning "Band On The Run." Far as I am concern there was only one bad track here, the rest were mostly divided into excellent, good and average with only one truly awful track. It was only kept off the pole chart by the "Saturday Night Fever' soundtrack. Maybe I was more appreciative of Paul but still personally I think he release an album too soon after one another. If he have take some time off and edited himself more, he could have had more super slicked album. ApJohn Lennon's status to let him on if his materials is not up to mark.
parently he needs someone of

London Town ( McCartney / Laine ) : This slow burner opener is not bad at all. Not as immediate as 'Band On The Run' or Venus And Mars / Rock Show" but still managed to stirred up those cosy lazy days of the 70's whenever I hear this tune.

Cafe On The Left Bank ( McCartney ) : This nice rocker is a classic.. One that's pure McCartney. Commercial and slick. One of the highlights.

I'm Carrying ( McCartney ) : One of Paul's trademark ballad. The lyrics are not the best from him but still it carries a decent tune. " Ah, long time no see, baby sure have been a while.' John Lennon must be laughing his head off.

Backwards Traveller ( McCartney ) : This one sounds like a filter but with Beatles style production that stops it from becoming a total waste of time. Mercifully it was short and mingled into the next song which was an instrumental.

Cuff Link ( McCartney ) : The instrumental that was linked to the above song. Not one of his better instrumentals.

Children Children ( McCartney / Laine ) : Vocal duty was passed on to Denny Laine on this delightful little song which offered a change of pace.

Girlfriend ( McCartney ) : Paul singing in falsetto and it works here. Michael Jackson also recorded this song but it's Paul's version for me. One of my favourite.

I've Had Enough ( McCartney ) : One of those rockers that Paul could knocked off in his sleep. Nothing special, just good old fashion rock 'n' roll. It was released as a single but didn't do much.

With A Little Luck ( McCartney ) : The big hit from here. Catchy McCartney kind of song  but it took a while for it to grow on me. I find it a little light weight. This was the linger version as compared to the single version which edited off the link which incidentally was the killer part.

Famous Groupies ( McCartney ) : Paul showing his strange sense of humour but somehow it  falls short of say 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer.'. Still not a total waste of time.

Deliver Your Children ( McCartney / Laine ) : Funny that the two Denny Laine songs should have the words 'children' in its title but this too is a good track.

Name And Address ( McCartney ) : Another winner here. This one have Paul singing in the style of Elvis Presley. Good old fashion rock 'n' roll. Much better than 'I've Had Enough.'

Don't Let It Bring You Down ( McCartney / Laine ) : I used to hate this track. What was I thinking. This was a superb track. One of Paul's best with flute and all. Definitely a highlight here.

Morse Morse And The Grey Goose ( McCartney / Laine ) : This was the truly God awful song that I just can't sit through. What was he thinking. The melody could have been saved had Paul polished it a bit more but as it was, the worst Paul McCartney song at this point.

BONUS TRACKS

Girl's School ( McCartney ) : Sometimes the Americans have strange taste. This B side of 'Mull Of Kintyre ' was the song played on the radio while the super duper bona file smash of the 70's was totally ignored. Personally I find this a downer. Certainly not up to Paul's standard at all.

Mull Of Kintyre ( McCartney / Laine ) : One of the biggest hits of the 70's. It even broke the record for The Beatles' 'She Loves You' for most copies sold. Bag pipes and all, this one stirred the nostalgia streak inside you and deserved to be the monster hit it was except in America. One of Paul McCartney's personal best. Curiously he doesn't ever perform this in any of his concerts.

DOP : Unknown.
